Last week, for the first we fly to Sydney Australia.
We join our internation design exhibition , the Designboom mart. It is an international product design exhibition which is part of this year Sydney Design Festival.
The exhibition is place at Power House museum and curated by designboom.com and highly respected design website base on Milan and UK. Designboom with its reader from more than 165 country around the world has organizing similar event in some world design capital like New York, Tokyo and Stockholm. This year is the first time designboom mart is held in Sydney Australia.
Last week, in Sydney, there were about 30 selected designer that join the exhibition. They came from Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, USA, Korea, Taiwan and even Chile.
And from Indonesia?
4 designer from Indonesia selected to join the exhibition. Me, adicahya, Jeff from Asialine Bali, Bayu Ariyanto from Orso Space Element Bandung and Fitorio with his very nice mistress table lamp. 4 of us is organized by Ferry Tantono from Indonesiayoungdesigners.com.
It was a very exciting event for all of us. And also a proof that our concept is among the best one according to designboom.
Currently, we continue trying to develop exciting new concept and product which is we hope as good as for you as for international design community.

Ok, i just want to tell you a little bit more about this event.
Designboom Mart is a product design event held by Designboom.com, an Italian based design portal. Its a regular event held globally in some major city, Like Tokyo, New York and Stockholm. This year, for the first time, held in Sydney Australia.
Designboom mart itself give young designer around the world to show their work and idea. As the name tell you, its also a design mart, means that the designer will also sell small quantities of their product to the audience (the price range is from 10 to 100 US$ or equivalent).
This year event is held from 14-17 August 2008 at Power House Museum, Sydney, Australia. Click here for Google maps image of the location. Its a part of this year Australia Design Festifal
We submit our product, Sleeve Plus, a unique combination of sleeve and bags specially designed for Asus eee pc and other small laptops, to designboom about one and a half month ago, and we meet their criteria. So, now, we preparing ourself to go to the event.
We are one of four Indonesian designer that will come to the Designboom mart event and as a part of IndonesiaYoungDesigners Forum.

Our product got mentioned on Whats Hi-Fi Indonesia magazine. This is the first time our popular Asus eee pc sleeve got mentioned on national wide magazine.
The article itself told about the recent trend in laptop cases. They now change from traditional black suitcase like form to a more modern, colorfull lifestyle product. And, apparently, our Sleeve Plus is a perfect example to discribe it.

Sorry, we haven’t update our blog for quite some time.
So many thing happened since the last post. And we want to mention a few news that we think worth to share.
The first series of the post is our presence in Indonesia Creative Industry Exhibition, which is our very fist time.
The exhibition was held last month from 5-8 June 2008. It is a national exhibition covering many company related to creative industry in Indonesia. Our booth was located in Hall A, a special location for selected and emerging creative company. Where other area in the exhibition is covering product that based on Indonesian cultural heritage.

After long design process and sourcing, we finally finished our first batch of Sleeve Plus, our specially designed sleeve for Asus eee pc.
In the mean time, we continue to develop our webstore and payment system (will be done via secure channel provided by 2Checkout.com.

Asus eee success apparantly make other maker jump into the market too. We already know that Acer, Dell, MSI and some other plan to release a similar devices. But today, i found that software company also interested in this area too.
Please to met Linpus. Linpus is Taiwanesse based Linux distribution. They are said to be well known in Taiwan, but now, they want to go beyond their island and go international.
The create a special Linux distro for PC with 4-7inch display ( like eee pc). The interface itself is quite similar with Asus’s Xandros based Linux. In the easy mode, user is presented with tabbed interface showing group of software for similar task. In advance mode, user will have a KDE 3.5 based interface.
Very interesting. I’ll try to download the ISO tonight. Watch for more video of Linpus running on eee pc !
We at optimus, really love to play with Asus EEE PC (thats why we create optimus in the first place).
Since we don’t have any hardware hacking skills, we like to try different version of Linux on it. We’ve try Nimblex, eeexubuntu, ubuntu and so on. But what is curious me is Everex’s gOS.
This Ubuntu base distribution is interesting in two aspect. First, gOS interface is so interesting, all green with a Apple’s dock like at the button. Very sleek and modern.
Second thing, of course, its becase it belong to Everex. The company that promise to release a cheap Linux mini laptop, just like eee pc. So, technically, Everex is Asus rival here.
So i downloaded the gOS iso of version 2 beta. Because EEE PC doen’t have a dvdrom, i create a bootable SDcard for this gOS. The trick is simple. I’ll write how to do this in my hubpages hub. After that, i just plug the SD card, and booted from it.
The boot process is quite long, don’t know why. But at the end, gOS is running on top of EEE PC. Is quite smooth actually. Sure, there are some driver issue here, wifi doesn’t work for example. But i’m sure it can be taking care later.
